Lake City was the location of the trial of that infamous cannibal, Alfred Packer. The historical original sentencing documents are available for view at the courthouse. These include the statement of the sentencing judge that Mr. Packer is sentenced to hang by the neck until he is, "dead, dead, dead." The community of Lake City is surrounded by high mountain peaks and beautiful pristine lakes and streams. It is worth a trip to be surrounded by such beauty. However, you may want to make your trip in the Summer or Fall. Winter and Spring may offer some interesting driving conditions.
